Make your way to Dali

Mountains on one side. The lake on the other.

Visa

German citizens currently don't need a visa to enter China ; you can stay up to 30 days visa-free under China's current policy. This is confirmed through the end of 2026 as of this writing; since our wedding is in March 2027, please double-check closer to your travel date.

Getting to Dali

Dali has its own airport (DLU) with domestic flights, and a high-speed train from Kunming. From Europe, most routes connect through Beijing, Shanghai or Kunming. Please arrive by Friday, March 26: we're all staying at the KASION hotel in Xizhou, on the west shore of Erhai Lake, and the ceremony lawn at Haishe Park is a 3-minute walk away.

Getting around Dali

Use Didi (China's version of Uber) for taxis from the airport or station and around Dali ; Uber and Lyft don't operate in mainland China. Xizhou old town and Dali old town are easy day trips from the hotel.

Apps to install before you land

WeChat (for group coordination and payments), Didi (ride-hailing), a translation app, and a VPN if you want access to apps like Google or WhatsApp while in China ; install the VPN before you arrive.

Money

China runs largely on mobile payments (Alipay/WeChat Pay); foreign cards aren't always accepted at smaller vendors, so carry some RMB cash as backup. Tipping isn't expected anywhere.

A place to stay

We have a room block at KASION in Xizhou for March 26 and 27. Your booking is 450 RMB per room per night, or 900 RMB for the two nights.

Reserve your room through your RSVP by January 31, 2027. A PayPal booking-payment link is available in your invitation.

A little of both our worlds

For many of you, this will be your first wedding in China. There’s no need to learn any rules. Just come as you are.

At the table

A relaxed dinner on the hotel lawn, with plenty to choose from and time to enjoy each other’s company.

Raise a glass

There will be toasts, and perhaps a little baijiu. Tea and juice are just as welcome.

Your presence is our gift

A red envelope (红包) is a local tradition, but never an obligation. Having you here is what matters to us.

Bring a warm layer

March evenings by the lake can be cool. Dress details will follow closer to the day.

Will you be there?

We’re saving a place for you.

RSVP & hotel reservations close January 31, 2027.

Your code was included on your invitation. Get in touch with us if you can't find it.

A few little details

What should I wear?

Dress code details are coming closer to the date. Bring a warm layer: March evenings in Dali are cool.

Can I bring a plus-one / my kids?

This is set per household on your invitation — your RSVP form will only show the guests we're expecting from your household. If you have questions, just reach out to us directly.

What if it rains / the ceremony is outdoors?

The ceremony is outdoors on a lawn by the lake. We'll share the rain plan here closer to the date.

I don't speak Chinese — will that be a problem?

Not at the wedding itself. Around Dali, we recommend the translation app + Didi combo mentioned in the Travel section, and we'll provide a printable card with the venue address in Chinese to show taxi/Didi drivers if needed.

Do I need to bring a gift?

No — see the Chinese Wedding Customs section above. Gifts of any kind or currency are welcome, but your presence is what matters most to us.
